The Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) of Alberta is expanding the sorts of cancers covered for firemen.

The provincial government is expanding the range of cancer forms covered under workers’ compensation presumptions to include pancreatic, thyroid, mesothelioma, and soft tissue sarcoma.

“Firefighters put their lives and property in danger to safeguard Albertans’ lives and property, and they deserve to be paid for their efforts,” said Brian Jean, minister of Employment, economy, and northern development.

“More cancer presumptions assist firefighters and their families in receiving the benefits and assistance they require with fewer delays and obstacles.” Alberta was one of the first governments to establish these presumptions, and I am delighted that we continue to lead the country.”
