Angie Castera has been named Chief Human Resources Officer at American Student Assistance (ASA), a national charity that is revolutionizing the way middle and high school students learn about occupations and navigate education-to-career options. Angie will be in charge of connecting all human resource-related initiatives and policies with the strategic framework of ASA. She will report to Jean Eddy, President and CEO of the ASA.

Angie brings two decades of nonprofit and corporate experience to ASA, which she will use to help develop programs and policies that support the organization’s diversity and inclusion practices, benefits and compensation, employee training and development, and the cultivation of a consistent cultural experience for all employees, regardless of work location. She will also be in charge of change management projects and corporate communications.

“Nothing is more important than our capacity to recruit, develop, and retain best-in-class talent, which is not simple to do.” Jean Eddy remarked, “Angie offers a depth of expertise in the education and nonprofit sectors that will help us keep ahead of the curve in all human resource problems.”

Angie joins ASA from Oxfam America, where she supervised all human resources affairs in the United States and other countries in the Oxfam America affiliate portfolio. She was also in charge of Oxfam International’s strategy and leadership initiatives, as well as inter-affiliate human resources. She formerly worked as the Director of Human Resources, North America for Navitas, a renowned worldwide educational provider that provides educational services and learning solutions at over 120 institutions and universities in 27 countries.

She graduated from Emmanuel College with a B.A. and an Eastern Nazarene College Certificate in Human Resources Management. She has served on the boards of various organizations, including the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts and, most recently, the Immigrant Family Services Institute.
